Baltimore Algebra Project
Since the socioeconomic status of Baltimore and its neighboring cities needs to improve to become competitive with the rest of America, the Baltimore Algebra Project was set up in order to increase math literacy in the area.
Not only does the Algebra Project teach math literacy, it also hires numbers of Baltimore’s youth as tutors. The Project hopes that by employing more of the city’s youth, the poverty level in Baltimore will improve. The organization also does work outside the classroom. Through rallies and demonstrations, the Project is trying to get the Baltimore government to better fund the city’s schools.
Along with math, the BAP also hopes to teach teen activism, as they encourage kids to express themselves through the media in order to get the government to focus more on the schools.
