IronMatt: Matthew Larson Foundation

My name is Sarah Viducic and I am from Oakland, NJ. For my eigth grade project before moving onto Indian Hills High School, we have to complete a project that can be anything, it was 100% up to us. My friend Natalie and I wanted to do something for charity, then we decided we wanted to fundraise for the Matthew Larson Foundation. Matt Larson lived in Franklin Lakes, NJ, the neighboring town to Oakland and Wyckoff. Matt was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was at the young age of 2. The Larson family, was never the same since. Matt had to undergo many surgeries he was in remission for 3 years but the cancer returned.

When he was five, he once again had a successful surgery. However, it wasnt long until the cancer came back for round three, Matt along with the Larson family gave everything they could. It hurts to say, but Matthew lost his battle April 29, 2007, a month after his 7th birthday. Matthew gave his all, he always had a smile on his face and hope in his heart. The community remembers Matt as brave soul, a hero, but most of all a legend. Matt is now a guardian angel, helping kids get the chance at life he only had for seven short years.

Soon after Matthew lost his race against cancer, his family and close friends came up with the Matthew Larson Foundation, other wise known as IronMatt. The charity raises money to find a cure for cancer while helping other children along the way. Natalie and I sold IronMatt bracelets, Tshirts, and held bake sales. We tried our best and reached about 800 dollars. Our goal was as far over a thousand as possible but, we did as much as we could, and every penny counts!
