Kids Saving Kids!
|
My friend and I were reading articles during our history class one day, and became really interested in the deprivation of education of children, mostly girls, in other countries. With the help of our teacher, we formed a group at our school called Students For Human Rights. Throughout the year we held fundraisers to obtain enough money to build our own school in a country called Sierra Leone. By June, the small group of us had raised enough money to build our school! We didn't stop yet though... we kept raising money to put desks and books in that school! The things that we had taken for granted, dreaded coming to school for, children were now ecstatic about! That really touched my heart. After that, my friend and I, along with some new recruits, checked back with our teacher, who asked us to each write a few pages on a person who we thought was a good person to look up to. He then compiled the articles, got it published, and sent it to a high school for orphans in Rwanda. Please check us out on twitter, too. ( Twitter.com/Kids4aCause )I am proud to say that I have used my voice in the world in a positive way... we never know whose heart we will touch, or what we can be remembered for, but at the end of the day, i want to be able to say that i am proud of who i am as a person... are you? (The picture is the larger group of us, who helped build the school, along with 2 reps from an organization, Free The Children, who came to support our cause!)
