Summer Camp: Children with disabilities
This summer I needed a job. I wanted to be outside in the fresh air rather than flipping burgers. I found a job at a local association called WIAIH (West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped). The job required me to go to summer camp with a child with a disability. I was so excited for this opportunity that I told my best friend and together we went to apply for the job.
One of the children my best friend and I worked with was named Kennith. He is 10 years old and is completely mute and has other disabilities.
This job was amazing. It showed me that just because a child has a disability doesn't mean they can't have fun. They can do almost everything a child without a disability can do, just in a different way or at a slower pace. We made a difference in this boy's life by letting him go to camp and make friends this summer.
We hope that this story can inspire other teenagers to make a difference and help someone in their hometown too.
