Calista Cares: Special Olympics and Make-A-Wish
When I was 7 years old, I started making crafts to sell to raise money for Special Olympics because I heard our management team talking about how they didn't have enough money to take the athletes to competitions.
My brother inspired me because he is a Special Olympics athlete and I know how much he loves to do the competitions. I would hate to see that he can't do something he loves. My brother competes in Special Olympics bowling, bocce, swimming and track and field, and I help out at the practices. I am also a Special Olympics Unified Partner in bocce. My brother and I have won medals as a Unified Team at Sectionals 2 years in a row!
I have done all kinds of sales and fundraisers. I also have bake sales and raffles to raise money for Special Olympics. I am 10 now and so far, I have volunteered over 1,500 hours and I have raised over $6,600.00 for Special Olympics.
In October 2009, I decided that I would keep helping Special Olympics, but I want to help Make-A-Wish, too. My goal is to grant a wish, which is $3,400.00. I have raised $555.00 so far for Make-A-Wish!
If you'd like to see a lot of the crafts I sell, my website is called http://www.CalistaCares.com.
